About Us
Tucked into the green, rolling hills of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands in Noodsberg, Overstone Farm offers a quiet self-catering escape just 50 km from Pietermaritzburg and 60 km from Ballito.
The farm was first settled in the 1860s by John and Ellen Gordon, and generations later it remains in the family. That sense of history still lingers here, not in a polished or showy way, but in the feeling of a place that has been lived in, cared for, and quietly passed down over time.
The gardens are simple and spacious, with old trees, open lawns, and winding paths that invite slow walks and quiet moments. It is the kind of place where days unfold at their own pace, whether you are here for a weekend break or a longer stay.
Overstone is not about rush or noise. It is about space, stillness, and stepping away from the demands of everyday life.
Dairy
The Dairy is a simple, comfortable space suited to friends or family travelling together. It offers two three-quarter beds and a shower en-suite, with the basics covered for an easy stay, including a bar fridge and tea and coffee facilities. A quiet spot to rest after a day out and about.
Post Office
The Post Office is a cosy, comfortable space with a queen-size bed and a full en-suite bathroom with both bath and shower. A bar fridge and tea and coffee facilities are provided, making it an easy, relaxed place to settle in and unwind.
School Room
The School Room is a simple, comfortable space with two three-quarter beds and a shower en-suite. It includes a bar fridge and tea and coffee facilities, offering everything needed for an easy, restful stay.
Studio
The Studio is a self-contained unit set in a central spot on the farm, offering both comfort and convenience. It includes two three-quarter beds, a well-equipped kitchenette, and a separate shower and toilet. A simple, easy space to settle into, with everything you need close at hand.
Laundry
The Laundry is a spacious, self-contained unit suited to families or small groups. It features two double bedrooms, each with its own shower, along with a well-equipped kitchenette, dining area, and comfortable living space. The verandah opens out onto the garden, with views across the farm, an easy place to sit and take in the quiet.

Barn 1
Barn 1 is attached to the back of the communal Shed, offering a comfortable, easy-going space with two three-quarter beds and one single bed. It features a full bathroom with both bath and shower, along with a separate toilet. A bar fridge and tea and coffee facilities are provided, with views stretching out over the lawn and paddocks, especially beautiful in the early morning light.
Barn 2
Barn 2 is attached to the back of the communal Shed, offering a comfortable, easy-going space with two three-quarter beds and one single bed. It includes a shower and a separate toilet, along with a bar fridge and tea and coffee facilities. The room looks out over the lawn and paddocks, with soft morning light filtering in at sunrise.
Bottom House
Once the farm manager’s home, The Bottom House is a spacious, farm-style stay suited to groups. It sleeps up to 15 guests across four separate sleeping areas, with a mix of private and shared bathrooms, and one more independent section with its own kitchenette.
A large open-plan kitchen, dining, and lounge area creates an easy, sociable space, with wide views stretching down the valley.
The Shed
The Shed is the central gathering space at Overstone, originally the farm’s horse stables and now thoughtfully restored while keeping its original stone character. It offers a relaxed, versatile setting for birthdays, baby showers, kitchen teas, small events, or simply time together as a group.
A large, fully equipped kitchen opens into a spacious dining and entertainment area, flowing out onto a wide verandah and lawn for both indoor and outdoor use. There is also a smaller, more comfortable lounge space for quieter moments.
